On Thursday I had the last of my classes for the subject I am currently teaching that revolves around ethics and professionalism in engineering practice. The last class, a tutorial, turned out to be the best I had all session. The group presenting before the class looked at the controversies surrounding potential health impacts of mobile phones and power lines. What made it the best tutorial I had all session was the critical awareness and engagement with these controversial topics provided by those in this group. Seeing flickers on faces around the room as recognition of the oft-systematic basis of class disparity emerged was definitely a moment I gained something from.
